Dr. Anish Shah, Managing Director and CEO of the Mahindra
Group, is the first non-family professional to lead one of India’s most
respected conglomerates. With businesses spanning automobiles, IT, finance,
agriculture, renewable energy, and more, Mahindra has strengthened its position
as a global powerhouse under his leadership.
Early Life and Education
Dr. Shah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Sydenham
College, University of Mumbai, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from the
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and a Ph.D. in Management from
Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, USA.
Professional Journey
Before joining Mahindra, Dr. Shah built an impressive global
career. He served as President & CEO of GE Capital India from 2009 to 2014,
where he led business transformation and turnaround efforts, including the
successful revival of the SBI Card joint venture. He has also worked with Bank
of America, Citibank in Mumbai, and Bain & Company in Boston, gaining
extensive expertise across finance, consulting, and operations.
Role at Mahindra Group
Dr. Shah joined the Mahindra Group in 2014 as Group
President – Strategy and a member of the Group Executive Board. He later became
Chief Financial Officer of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. On 2 April 2021, he was
appointed Managing Director and CEO of the Group.
